Format Preferences

French CVs are typically one page, two for senior candidates, and almost always include a photo in the top-right or top-left corner. The "État Civil" section lists name, age, address, marital status, and nationality. A short "accroche" (hook) sits at the top in place of a US-style summary. List education with the exact French degree (BTS, Licence, Master, Doctorat) and the school's name. French employers value a "Centres d'Intérêt" section showing personality and culture fit. CVs may be written in French or English — French is preferred unless the role explicitly states English-speaking.

Tips

  • Include a professional headshot — it is a standard expectation in France.
  • State your age, marital status, and nationality in the État Civil section — this is normal in France.
  • Write a 2-3 line "accroche" at the top in place of an objective or summary.
  • Include a Centres d'Intérêt section — French employers care about cultural fit and personality.
  • Submit in French unless the role posting specifically asks for English.
