Job Description

The future of aerospace and defense starts here. Ursa Major was founded to revolutionize how America and its allies access and apply high-performance propulsion, from hypersonics to solid rocket motors, satellite maneuvering and launch. We design and deliver propulsion and defense systems that solve the most urgent and critical national security demands. Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team. A team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth. As an Avionics Electromechanical Engineer II, you will design and support the development of mechanical avionics components for Ursa’s rocket engines, rocket engine test facilities, and associated test equipment. You will work primarily on mechanical enclosures, electrical harnesses, brackets, and other electromechanical hardware used in demanding aerospace environments. You will collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, avionics, propulsion, manufacturing, and test engineers to develop hardware that meets functional, mechanical, environmental, manufacturing, and integration requirements. This role provides an opportunity to develop expertise in aerospace harness and electromechanical design while taking increasing ownership of individual components and design tasks. Responsibilities: Design and develop electrical harnesses, mechanical enclosures, brackets, and other electromechanical components for rocket engines and test equipment. Create and maintain 3D harness routing models and mechanical component models. Generate detailed engineering drawings, harness drawings, bills of materials, and other design documentation. Develop assembly and installation work instructions for electromechanical hardware. Apply established design standards, processes, and requirements to new designs. Perform basic mechanical and electrical design analyses to support design decisions. Evaluate harness routing, clearances, bend radii, strain relief, mounting, thermal exposure, and mechanical loads. Support the selection and trade of harness components, materials, connectors, backshells, clamps, protective sleeving, and related hardware. Work with manufacturing and technicians to support fabrication, assembly, installation, and troubleshooting of electromechanical hardware. Participate in hardware testing and assist with troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues. Support environmental and functional testing of harnesses and electromechanical assemblies. Participate in engineering peer reviews and incorporate feedback into designs. Review peer designs and provide constructive technical feedback. Support configuration management, BOM maintenance, and engineering change activities. Document technical decisions, analysis results, test results, and design changes. Contribute to the development and improvement of electromechanical design processes and standards. Required Qualifications: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. 2+ years of relevant engineering experience, or equivalent academic/project experience. Experience with 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing creation. Experience designing or working with electrical harnesses, electromechanical assemblies, or related aerospace hardware. Familiarity with electrical and mechanical design principles and engineering documentation. Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams. Understanding of basic harness manufacturing and assembly techniques. Ability to work effectively with manufacturing, technicians, test engineers, and other engineering disciplines. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently on assigned engineering tasks while seeking guidance on complex or unfamiliar problems. Desired Experience: Experience with wire harness design, fabrication, analysis, or test. Experience designing hardware for harsh thermal, vibration, shock, or dynamic environments. Experience with aerospace or defense vehicle electrical systems. Experience with materials and process selection or validation. Experience with product structure and Bill of Materials (BOM) management. Experience with Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD tools. Experience creating electrical schematics or wiring diagrams. Experience with Visio or similar diagramming tools. Experience with Python or other scripting languages for engineering automation. Familiarity with electrical testing and troubleshooting. Familiarity with environmental qualification and acceptance testing. Experience supporting hardware through manufacturing, integration, and test.
