Common questions
Do I need a photo on a US resume?
No — and including one is actively risky. US anti-discrimination law makes employers wary of receiving applications that disclose protected characteristics, so most recruiters discard photo-included resumes outright or run them through an anonymisation step.
One page or two?
One page if you have under 10 years of experience or are switching careers. Two pages for senior roles with substantive history. Three+ pages signal that you don't know how to edit — every line should justify itself.
Should I include references?
Not by default. "References available on request" is also outdated — most US recruiters assume this. Keep references in a separate doc you only share when asked.
